Discovery Program (Sexually Reactive Treatment)
The Discovery treatment program was developed for sexually reactive males. The Discovery Program has been split into 2 tracks. Both program's goals are to focus on appropriate sexual development and ultimately prevent victimization of others. The Junior Discovery track will be for male children ages 6 to 10 years of age. The program will be 12 to 13 weeks of treatment. It will focus on good touch/bad touch, private parts boundaries/rules, 12 steps of healthy touching, behavior modification (as needed), and medication management (as needed). The Discovery Program, working with males 11-14 years, will continue to be 6-9 months in length. Their treatment will focus on offender pathways and 12 steps to sex offender accountability. Admission to this unit will always be open as long as there are available beds.
QUALIFIED TREATMENT TEAMThe Discovery treatment team includes staff who have been certified as juvenile sex offender treatment professionals and is supervised by Rivendell Network Medical Director, Edmund Cavazos, III, MD. The Discovery program treatment team, including our Psychiatrist, Primary Therapists, Program Director, and several direct-care staff are all Certified Juvenile Sex Offender Counselors. DISCHARGE PLANNINGRivendell case management staff, working in close communication with the rest of the treatment team, help the parents and/or supervising agency to secure appropriate aftercare. The case manager assists in coordinating the discharge plan, which begins at admission. The child's response to treatment as well as the family's involvement have a strong impact on the discharge planning process.
Appropriate ReferralsThe population served by the Discovery program is male children, ages 8 to 12; however, age exceptions may be made based on individual evaluation by the Discovery treatment team. General requirements for admission include, but are not limited to: · Exhibited sexual acting our behavior. · Continued inappropriate behavior despite outpatient treatment or the community remains at risk due to continued acting out behaviors. · Family and/or guardian committed to assisting in the treatment process.
Referrals to the Discovery Program may be made by therapists, Impact workers, and Department of Community Based Services. Referrals also can be made by physicians, psychologists, ministers, teachers, family members, or other concerned individuals.
