INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM

Rivendell's Adolescent Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed to offer treatment for substance abuse disorders without the expense and disruption of inpatient treatment. The program is designed to allow intensive treatment while the patient remains in a home and/or school setting.

The Intensive Outpatient Program consists of 32 sessions typically spanning an 8-week time period. Patients attend the program four days a week for 3 1/2 hours per session. Participants are administered a urine drug screen at the time of admission and randomly throughout treatment. Guardians and referral sources are provided with both verbal and written reports as needed to track patient progress in treatment and recovery.

Treatment Philosophy

It is essential to solid recovery that each patient be treated as an individual and as a whole person. Therefore, the program integrates the Seven Challenges® as well as the 12-step philosophy with proven psychotherapies to meet the needs of each individual.

Treatment Planning

The treatment team consists of a licensed Psychiatrist; a therapist; registered nurse and a Mental Health Associate (MHA), all with significant training in dealing with chemical dependency issues. The patient, parent/guardian and referring agency are also essential members of the treatment team.

Program Components

  • Education Groups: structured lecture/discussion groups covering such areas as bio-psycho-social aspects of addiction, the recovery process, spirituality, and relapse prevention
  • Group Therapy: forum in which participants begin to initiate honest, feelings-level communication with others and are provided with support and feedback from peers
  • Individual Therapy: brief, intense sessions designed to develop the responsibility and discipline necessary for continuing recovery
  • Family Education/Group Therapy: weekly group sessions that emphasize the family's recovery and health

Referrals

The population served by the IOP is adolescents 13 to 18 years old who have been diagnosed with substance or polysubstance dependence. Referrals to the Adolescent Substance Abuse IOP are accepted 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
