Choices Behavioral Treatment Program for Children

Choices is a behavioral treatment program for children ages 5 and up who are in crisis. Rivendell’s therapeutic program for children is designed to provide a safe, consistent and nurturing environment that produces positive changes. Children receive treatment for a wide range of psychiatric problems.
Treatment of depression post traumatic stress, anxiety, disordered thinking, behavioral issues, or any childhood psychiatric problem.
Treatment focuses on developing self-control skills, strengthening self-esteem, resolving family conflicts, and developing basic social skills.
Treatment often includes medication management with the goal of providing the medical intervention needed to diminish the symptoms of the illness.
Children may struggle with one or more of these types of symptoms that are not easily resolved.
- Potential harm to others, including animals
- Patterns of disorganized or dangerous behavior such as
- Fire setting
- Running away
- Drug or alcohol use
- Severe anxiety and panic
- Destructive behaviors
- Inability to function (home/school) due to severe depression or other emotional issues
Treatment plans are based on thorough psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments. Therapists work quickly to identify problems that are affecting the behavior of concern. Effective coping alternatives are taught based on intense DBT skills training and group therapy. Safety plans with alternate coping skills that work best for the patient are developed for successful transition home. Strategies to increase commitment for positive action and motivation for change are integrated in the treatment approach.
The Multi-Disciplinary Treatment Team includes a psychiatrist, advanced practice nurse and nursing staff, licensed mental health therapist, dietician and recreational therapist.
Case Managers will assist with understanding treatment options, discharge planning, aftercare needs, and working with insurance carriers. The case manager will coordinate communication needs with the professionals you rely on at home, with your permission.
Referrals can be made by physicians, therapists, ministers, social service agencies or family members. Referrals are accepted 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week. Assessments can be completed at the hospital or mobile assessments are available by appointment.
